The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 and Veterinary Surgery (Exemptions) Order 2015, required veterinary consent before veterinary physiotherapy is carried out on an animal.

In 2020, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) revised and updated these conditions:

  1. Under current UK regulations, musculoskeletal therapy can only be provided by a qualified practitioner as part of a process led by veterinarians. Animals who have an illness, disease, or pathology can only be treated by therapists with the consent from veterinary surgeon.

  2. All animals treated must be registered with a veterinary practice prior to treatment. However, healthy animals do not require veterinary consent for ‘MOTs’.

If the animal has an ongoing condition or is lame veterinary consent is required by law. If the animal is presumed to be healthy but an issue arises at the appointment the therapist must refer the animal back to the vet, veterinary consent then may be required prior to any further treatments.

Once the relevant forms have been submitted we will contact you either via email or text/WhatsApp to either arrange an appointment or ask for further details.
